60 Storyworth Memoirs Question Prompts

Founded in 2013, Storyworth is the original and still most trusted family storytelling platform. We make memoir-writing easy by breaking the process down into bite-sized pieces through weekly email questions. What makes each Storyworth Memoir special are the memories and photos that fill it — but great prompts can help unlock the best memories. That’s why we offer so many ways to create a custom queue of questions for yourself or a loved one.

How Storyworth’s Weekly Questions work

A Storyworth Memoirs subscription includes a year’s worth of thought-provoking questions emailed to your storyteller each week. Storyworth offers multiple ways to share stories in formats that people of all ages are already familiar with. Storytellers can simply reply to their weekly prompts the same way they would respond to any email. They can also request a call from Storyworth and tell their story with any phone.

Storytellers, along with any family or friends added to their account, can add questions to their queue. Below are three ways to choose, write, or create questions.

Storyworth’s extensive library of questions

We’ve filled our prompt library with hundreds of questions you can browse to find the ones that will help tell the story of a life. You can search upcoming questions by category, including childhood, education, parenthood, family and home, love and friendship, hobbies and passions, travel and adventure, work life, traditions and celebrations, spirituality and faith, military, and even challenges. Or you can also search by any keyword to find the best questions for you.

Write or rewrite your own Storyworth questions

If you find a question that's close to what you want to ask but it could be more relevant to the storyteller, you can change it. You can do this before you add it to your queue, or even while you’re writing the story. For example, you could change, “How did you decide when to change jobs?” to “How did you decide when to leave your job in city government?”

If you want to ask a question that’s specific to your storyteller’s life, you can also write one from scratch and add it to the queue.

Use Storyworth’s Personalized Questions

If you want to ask questions that are unique to your storyteller’s life but aren’t sure how to start writing them, try our Personalized Questions tool. You can find this tool by going to Upcoming Questions and clicking the Personalize button. Add a few meaningful details about your life, like where you grew up, any hobbies you have, your children’s ages, or anything else!

We’ll use that information to create custom questions just for you. You can add them to your queue, edit them, or choose not to use them — it’s up to you!
