Have you ever been pleasantly surprised by a parent revealing an unexpected anecdote? Or wished that your children could know their grandparents as well as you do? Or wondered about a mentor's background and how it guided their achievements? Storyworth gives you the opportunity to ask—and to compile the answers in a beautiful bound book.
Storyworth makes memoir writing accessible to everyone, breaking the process into fun and easy bite-sized pieces. Weekly email prompts guide their story, and with hundreds of Storyworth questions to choose from, there's no shortage of inspiration. You can also incorporate photos, resulting in a unique and compelling visual memoir.
It's fun, easy, and a meaningful way to connect with the people you love. Below, we explain how it works.
Storyworth Memoirs make it easy to turn one person's memories into a memoir their loved ones can cherish. It's the perfect gift to show your favorite people how much you care, whether it’s for a birthday, Mother's Day, or Father's Day. A subscription to Storyworth Memoirs also makes a great gift for a milestone occasion, like a retirement.
Whatever the reason—even if it’s just a desire to connect with family—a subscription to Storyworth Memoirs shows your loved one how cherished they are. By preserving someone's stories, you’re preserving their memory and legacy for future generations.
You can also get a Storyworth Memoir subscription for yourself. It can be an opportunity to share your life, values, and career knowledge or simply an outlet for personal reflection. We believe everybody has a story worth sharing, and Storyworth Memoirs make it easy to share yours.
The standard Storyworth subscription includes:
How does it work? Every week, the "storyteller" (the person telling their story) receives an email with a question to answer. The storyteller replies to the prompt with an email, and the answer is then emailed to all the readers designated on the storyteller's account. Storytellers can also share their story on their Storyworth account.
Our library of story prompts includes questions like:
At the end of the year of prompts, the stories and photos inspired by these questions can be bound into a keepsake book. One Storyworth book is included with the standard subscription.
When your subscription ends, you will receive an email with the option to renew for another year or to print your book. Please note: we do not print the books automatically. We usually offer a few months to edit your stories, so you will not lose access to your account or stories when your subscription ends. We just ask that you order your book within 3 months or renew for another year if you want to write more stories.
After one year of email prompts, you will have the option of turning the storyteller's narrative into a bound book. The standard Storyworth subscription includes one hardcover book with a black-and-white interior and color cover.
If you want to add more stories, you can renew your subscription, allowing the storyteller to continue receiving and answering Storyworth questions for an additional year. You will still be able to edit your existing stories and order your book(s) after the initial subscription has expired.
Your Storyworth Memoir will be a keepsake you can pass down for generations, so give the creation process the care it deserves. Review the content, check the formatting, and confirm that everything is correct and the way you envisioned it before ordering your printed book.
Please note: Reprints are not available for issues present in the preview, only for defects from the printer.
You can order additional books at the end of the subscription year. The pricing for additional copies of your book is as follows:
• $39: Black and white interior, up to 480 pages
• $79: Color books, up to 300 pages
• $99: Color books above 300 pages, up to 480 pages
Please take the time to carefully review your book’s interior preview before ordering, as we cannot offer reprints for errors that were present in the preview.
If you are ordering a large number of books, we recommend ordering one copy first. That way, you can see the book in person and make any necessary corrections on our website before ordering the rest.
You have full flexibility with the topics your storyteller can write about. Choose your storyteller’s questions from our library, edit our questions, or write your own for a meaningful and customized experience.
Each question email contains a link to change your question if you’re not inspired by that week’s topic. Just click that link to visit our question library, where you can choose a new question or write your own.
Just hit “Reply” to the question email and compose your story in the new message field. When you’re done, just send the email to post the story to your account. You can also write your story by logging in to your Storyworth account.
Note: Please do not send your story as a PDF file, as our system is unable to read these attachments.
Yes! In addition to writing, you can record your stories over the phone, and we’ll transcribe them to your book automatically. You can also rerecord or edit your story at any time.
Storytellers can write as many stories per week as they wish, and the frequency can be changed in the email settings under Manage Account. We default to sending one question per week to avoid overwhelming people, but you can choose to send them faster (up to once a day) or slower (every other week or even once a month). Your book can be printed whenever you feel your memoir is complete.
Our books have a maximum page count of 480 pages. If your stories exceed the maximum page count, they can be split up into separate volumes for an additional cost.
You have as much time to reply to a story prompt as you would like, and can catch up at any time. All questions sent to you will be saved to your account at www.storyworth.com/home. You can even go back and respond to old questions at any time, including after your year’s subscription has expired.
If your storytellers share an email address, that’s no problem! You can purchase them each a subscription with the same email address. Note: you’ll just need to make both purchases separately. Once their subscriptions begin, your storytellers will both receive questions once a week. The emails will be distinguished by the names in the subject lines.
Yes! You can reorganize the order of your stories by visiting your Table of Contents on our website. From there, you can drag and drop the stories into the order of your choosing.
You can edit a story at any time by following these steps:
Our printing software only supports languages using the Latin alphabet at this time. We do hope to add support for more languages in the future. If you would like to know if your language is currently supported, please feel free to contact us at hello@storyworth.com. Stories can still be written and viewed in any language on our website, but only Latin characters can be exported for print.
The books are 6 ⅹ 9 inches, similar to a book you might find in a bookstore. The font is Merriweather, size 10. We currently don’t support font formatting of any kind—no italics, bold, or underline.
The books can include photos, which are printed in black and white by default; however, color printing is available at an additional cost.
We have several professionally designed cover styles to choose from. All covers can be customized with a photo and a title, and some cover styles allow for different colors.
The standard Storyworth Memoir subscription includes one black-and-white interior hardcover book. There are no reprints, so you want to make sure you get every detail just right. You can see how the story will be formatted in the book, which measures 6 x 9 inches, by logging into your account on the Storyworth website. Click on the story title and click "Print Preview." This will download a PDF for you to review. You can then go back and make edits as needed.
When reviewing the PDF draft of your book, make sure to:
This is a memento you want to cherish for years to come, so take your time to make it perfect!
Our printer can print books up to 480 pages. In practice, few people run into this limitation. If your book exceeds 480 pages, you may purchase additional volumes. To find the current page count of your book, start a book order and download the interior preview.
To include a photo, simply include it with your email response, either inline or as an attachment. You can also upload images by logging into your Storyworth account. There is no limit to the number of photos you can include aside from the limit of 480 pages per volume.
Generally, only 1 or 2 photos fit on each page, so keep that in mind if you have a large number of photos. We support standard photo formats, such as JPEG and PNG, but please do not submit photos as a PDF file. High-resolution photos are printed at 300 dpi. Smaller photos may be printed at 150dpi. Photos can be rotated, cropped, and resized when editing the stories on our website.
Yes, you can! Type the caption directly underneath the photo in your Storyworth account. Short captions will be centered automatically in your book. Captions longer than one line will not be centered. Please note that the centering on the website may not exactly match the centering in the book, so make sure you review the book proof before ordering a printed book. Additionally, it's best to place the caption under the photo rather than above it so the text will stay with the photo across page breaks.
All books come with a full-color cover. The book credits included in our standard packages are for books with black-and-white interior printing. Currently, it is not possible to upgrade to a book credit with a color interior up front, but you can upgrade to a color interior at the time of printing. The cost of the color upgrade depends on the length of the book:
Each subscription covers one storyteller and one book, but purchasing multiple subscriptions for multiple storytellers lets you include all their stories in the same book at the time of printing. You’ll then receive multiple copies of that book for your family to save.
To combine multiple storytellers into one book, please reach out to us at hello@storyworth.com after the storytellers have finished writing their stories, and we'll create the combined book for you.
