What’s it like to attend your own funeral?

The Storyworth Podcast
Episode Description

On this episode of The Storyworth podcast, Krista talks to Curtis and Nettie, a husband and wife who have been together for over 25 years. One day, out of the blue, Curtis was told he had weeks to live. That diagnosis sent Curtis and his family down a whirlwind path that they never expected. Curtis had to settle all the business of dying, attend his own funeral, and say goodbye to his family with the fleeting time they had left together. Together, they discuss that journey and why Curtis is still here to talk about it. Below, they share their thoughts about planning a funeral that Curtis could attend.

Nettie: I said, Curtis, your body's going to be with us longer than your brain is. So we need to go and see your friends and family. While you can still comprehend and listen to what they're saying.

Curtis: And that's when we had this plan that, hey, I think I'd like to have, uh, my own funeral service and I'd like to attend myself. We called it a celebration of life.
