If you’re thinking of giving Remento to a loved one or yourself, or it’s your first time hearing about Remento and you just want to know more about it, this guide is for you.

What Is Remento?

Remento is a family storytelling platform that uses AI to transform spoken memories into keepsake books. Remento allows users to record video or voice-only responses to weekly prompts, which are then transcribed and compiled into a hardcover book, along with photos and QR codes linking to the original recordings.

Who Is Remento For?

Remento is ideal for individuals and families looking to preserve personal histories without needing to write. Because it converts speech to text and allows you to use AI to adjust the length, tone, or perspective of the story, Remento is especially suited for:

  • Elderly family members who prefer speaking over typing
  • Those with limited technical skills or motor or visual impairments
  • Those who don’t want to spend too much time reflecting on their stories

How Does Remento Work?

Remento storytellers receive their weekly storytelling prompts via either email, SMS text message, or both. You can choose from their library of questions or write your own, and change the question frequency. Storytellers can share their stories by video using any internet-connected device.

Remento offers AI tools to alter the length, content, tone, and point of view of the story after it’s added to the storyteller’s book in written form. One photo can be added to the top of each story or used as a story prompt. While you can’t insert photos within your story, you can add a group of photos at the end.

What are some Remento questions?

Remento's prompts are designed to inspire the recall of memories, ranging from distant family history to more contemporary memories. Examples include:

  • What was your most memorable childhood vacation?
  • What was your most embarrassing moment from your teenage years?
  • What was the most fun you ever had with your friends in high school or college?
  • What was the best concert or live performance you ever attended?
  • What was the best meal you ever had and where was it?
  • What was the most adventurous trip you ever took?
  • What was the most memorable birthday you ever had?
  • What was the most memorable holiday you ever celebrated?
  • What was the most memorable event you ever attended (e.g. wedding, graduation)?
  • What was the most memorable gift you ever received and why?

These questions aim to uncover personal anecdotes and life lessons that might otherwise go unshared.

What Do Remento Books Look Like? Can Remento books be customized?

One hardcover, color-printed book (up to 200 pages) is included in your subscription. When you're ready to create your printed Remento book, you'll confirm how you want the stories to appear. You can keep them as word-for-word transcripts or use Remento’s AI features to rewrite them, altering the tone, length, and point of view of the story.

You can arrange the stories in any order and customize your cover with a title and photo. Before printing, you'll have the opportunity to preview your entire book. Be sure to review each story carefully, as reprints are not available for issues visible in the preview, and you will lose editing access once your subscription ends.

How much does Remento cost?

Remento’s subscription costs $99 and includes:

  • One storyteller account
  • Unlimited collaborators
  • One year's worth of story prompts
  • One 8x10 hardcover, color book (up to 200 pages)

Subscriptions automatically renew after the first year to allow you to keep collecting stories. You can cancel your renewal at any time. You can view but not edit your stories online after your subscription has ended.

You can download an e-book copy of your memoir at any time for an additional $24.99, or request a backup of your recordings by emailing Remento’s customer support.

How much do additional Remento books cost?

One color book is included in your subscription. If your book exceeds 200 pages, there is a $30 surcharge per book. Books over 380 pages must be split into two volumes

Second volumes and other additional copies can be purchased for $69 each (up to 200 pages) or $99 each (201-380 pages). You can also download an e-book version for $24.99.

Remento offers a full refund of the subscription price within 30 days of purchase. However, keep in mind the following two conditions:

  • Printed books cannot be returned or exchanged.
  • Only the original purchaser can request and receive a refund.

What People Say About Remento

Remento has just a few hundred reviews on Trustpilot, likely due to being a newer company, though they have an average rating of 4.8 stars.

Remento users enjoy the ability to preserve family stories in a keepsake book and feel closer to loved ones by learning more about them. They also say that the speech-to-text format works great for those with lower tech facility, motor, or visual issues.

“Very easy to use and record what I thought of the photos” — Darlene
“It is easy to use. The best part is the professional translation of my spoken words to an interesting written story that I couldn’t have written myself.” — Pat C.
“My kids are really enjoying reading stories from my past.” — Fred M.

Family members like the ability to listen to the storyteller share stories via the QR codes printed in their books. However, some worry about whether the QR codes will continue to function if the company goes out of business.

"For me, the mistake here is the use of QR codes. Whenever I receive a book with QR codes, I always download the content because the website will inevitably disappear in 10 years.” — MiaVistan on Reddit
“The issue I see here is the $99.00 annual fee and the QR code. How long will this company stick around and what happens to the content if they go under?” — Fee_Training on Reddit

While many like the way AI rewrites their stories, others say the written versions don’t feel like they’re in their loved ones' real voices.

“I like the prompts and being able to add my own. I wish they had more of her actual words when it is changed over to print from her voice recording.” — Cathy on Trustpilot

Other’s mention a frustration with the AI-powered customer support chatbots and wish they offered phone support to navigate the process.

“There’s no way to get a hold of you on the phone. I’ve tried several times to communicate with anybody and this so-called business and it’s zero service zero please please give this money and the cost of this gift back to our daughter” — Marylee B. on Trustpilot
“Unfortunately I can’t use the subscription I have purchased. When setting up the account my email was misspelled. When I went to resolve it right after my purchase, the only resource was AI. They couldn’t understand I needed to revise my email address on my account and told me there was no other way to get it fixed because real people were to busy to handle this. A few days later I did the same thing. And got the same message.” — Candice L. on Trustpilot

Remento Alternatives

Remento is a newer addition to the family storytelling space. While Remento offers a voice-based storytelling experience, other platforms provide different approaches.
